Cricket World Cup 2007: India’s Out
Mar 24th, 2007 by ck
I only get to know cricket since I came to Mumbai early this month, when the ICC Cricket World Cup was about to start. I personally think the game itself is pretty boring, but people all over in India are really crazy about it - cricket fields everywhere, 70% of the space in Sport news section is dominated by cricket-related articles and whatnot. Because of this, I started to watch a few live matches (usually only managed to watch the first half) in the World Cup and get to know some rules in this game and follow some news.
However, India lost to Sri Lanka in a vital group match yesterday by 69 runs, indicates the end of their world cup journey. The early elimination sank a billion of hopes - it was indeed a major disappointment, if not humiliation for India. Some of the fans cried badly, and some aggressive fans even expressed their anger at the team by burning portraits and flags. While this is clearly not the best way to cure their disappointment, it is rather understandable because cricket is already part of their life, just like how soccer can be so important in Brazil.
Anyways, nothing can change the fact - the better team won. The only thing India can do is, understand their own weaknesses, improve it, and do better next time :-)
