Yet another silly joke to share, but this is a real one that happened to me when I was in The Park hotel, Mumbai.
In the very next morning after I checked in to the hotel, I wanted to check my emails so I plugged in the network cable to my laptop. However, after I started my browser, I was re-directed to the hotel broadband service login page instead of my homepage Google.com. The login page stated that I needed to pay for so and so amount of money for 1 hour, 2 hours and 24 hours of Internet connection.
OMG! I thought it was supposed to be FOC wasn’t it? At least this is what I was told by my admin staff who made the booking for me. Damn, I got cheated! So I gave the hotel staff a ring to check about it. The conversation looked like this:
Hotel staff: “Good morning sir, this is XXXX (can’t remember his name), how may I help you?”
Me: “Good morning, I’d like to check about the broadband service rate, I thought it should be free of charge as per agreed in my package earlier? But I was asked to pay as stated in the login page in order to use the broadband service.”
Hotel staff: “No sir, the broadband rate is XXX rupee for 1 hour, XXX rupee for 2 hours and XXX rupee for 24 hours sir, it’s not free”
Me: “Oh, that could be a big problem, we are staying here for long and it’s very expensive for us. I thought it’d be waived as per the agreement earlier.”
Hotel staff: “Really sorry about it sir, is there anything else I can help you?”
Me: “Not at the moment, I’ll check it out with my colleague ASAP. Thanks and bye”
Hotel staff (shocked): “Really sorry sir, sorry for the inconvenience, we hope you have enjoyed the stay”
20 minutes later, the hotel staff rang my room and told me: “Sir, are you done with your packing? Do you need me to clean the room now?
I was puzzled: “No… Why?”
Hotel staff: “You told me that you wanted to check out with your colleague, sir”
2 days later, after some negotiation from my colleague, we actually got a better deal from another hotel and we decided to shift over there. During the check out, the same hotel staff came to me and asked:
“Hello sir, do you really want to check out this time? Is this for real?“
